International Women’s Day Breakfast
On Wednesday 8 March the Tintern Grammar community gathered with joy and enthusiasm to celebrate International Women’s Day with a special breakfast event. The occasion served as a tribute to the indomitable spirit of women and their remarkable achievements. The event was graced by the presence of the esteemed guest speaker, Madeline Townsend, Class of 2008, who shared her courageous journey, of surviving a rare cancer and now an ambassador raising funds for Rare Cancer Australia, she left the attendees in awe and inspired.
Madeline’s stirring story struck a chord with the attendees as she recounted her experiences and triumphs, proving that with determination, anything is possible. Shortly after the event, Madeline set out with a team of Tintern Alumni, to climb Mount Kosciuszko for the Kosi Challenge raising funds for Rare Cancers Australia. This resonated deeply with the Tintern community, who pledged their support wholeheartedly. All the funds raised during the event and other activities at Tintern throughout the week, were dedicated to the Rare Cancers Australia Kosi Challenge. The Tintern community took this opportunity to show their solidarity and compassion, exemplifying the true spirit of care.
The grand finale of the breakfast event was the Senior Girls Chamber Choir delivered a rousing performance, capturing the essence of the morning with their rendition of the iconic anthem, ‘I am Woman.’ The song, made famous by Helen Reddy, Tintern Grammar Alumna, Class of 1958.
After the breakfast event the Tintern Grammar community eagerly followed the progress of Madeline’s team in their quest to climb Mt Kosciuszko cheering on the courageous team from afar through social media post updates. News was received with joy that all members of Madeline’s team achieved reaching the summit.
Together, the Tintern community raised an impressive $1,819.70 for Rare Cancers Australia, a testament to the collective power of a united effort. Madeline extended her sincere gratitude to everyone who contributed, acknowledging that the funds would make a significant difference in the fight against rare cancers.
