Paul Jarman visits Tintern
We were very pleased to host a two-day visit from Paul Jarman, composer of the Southwood Boys Song, earlier this week. With the support of our Friends of Music committee, the school is commissioning Paul to write a new school anthem for a combined Tintern Grammar. Paul toured the school and met with a range of people in our community to get a feel for our campus and culture, now that Southwood Boys’ Grammar and Tintern Girls’ Grammar have become one school. Having said that, it must be noted that we are not decommissioning our old songs – there will still be an important place for them at many community events in the future, as an acknowledgement of the historical journey which has brought us to where we are today. It is time, however, for us to also sing a new song which brings our boys’ and girls’ voices together as one through a more contemporary and customized musical vehicle which reflects where the school is placed heading into 2021. Paul will be returning to Tintern in Term 1, 2021 to meet more students and staff as he workshops our song.
We are looking forward to launching the new song in 2021. It will be a wonderful way to celebrate being together again at school and, with no restrictions in place (fingers crossed), raising the roof with our joyous voices!
