At Tintern Grammar, we recognise the value of sport as a vital part of a balanced education and offer a wide range of sports, with first-class facilities on campus.
Participation, teamwork, healthy competition, striving to improve on a personal best and developing leadership skills are all benefits offered by sport.
Students can take part in mixed sporting activities, whilst some are gender-specific.
Whatever their own interest and level of fitness, we encourage students to participate and seek to push their boundaries. By doing so they can learn the important lessons derived from achieving personal goals. A routine of maintaining health and fitness, with regular exercise is something students can take with them and will be of great benefit, well after their school years.
The Sport and PE program in the Junior School encourages participation and supports students of all abilities. These programs allow students to develop their physical skills, solve movement challenges and develop a sense of achievement through positive teamwork and communication. The Compass Values are at the forefront of the program with students focusing on displaying their confidence, integrity and respect when representing the school and themselves as individuals. Students develop resilience and learn to celebrate their achievements, and from challenges can reflect on their effort and opportunities for growth. We are proud of our Junior School students’ achievements on the sports field and with the spirit in which they conduct themselves.
In Years 5 and 6, students take part in the Ringwood District Interschool Sport program in Term 2, competing against local schools in a friendly, yet competitive environment. The competition is held on Friday afternoons where students will travel to competitor schools or venues or host games onsite at Tintern. Teams may progress to Division, Regional or State competitions. Sports include:
AFL
soccer
netball
hotshots
volleybounce
Tintern Grammar holds annual House Carnivals in Athletics, Cross Country, and Swimming, with participation and placegetters earning House Points toward winning the Annual Tintern Grammar House Cup.
Our Secondary School is a member of EISM (Eastern Independent Schools of Melbourne) and students are able to compete in Inter-school sporting carnivals, as well as mid-week competitive sport. Competitive sports are scheduled to take place during the school week, so students are able to keep weekends free for family, friends, club-based sport and other personal pursuits.
