What a great joy and delight it was to be part of the Tintern Grammar Foundation Service in our 140th year on Friday 10th February. To remember where we have come from and how we got here is so important as a collective memory and understanding of ourselves and our place here in the Tintern Grammar school community.

The whole school came together in the CM Wood Performance Centre, with parents and specials guests to look back, remember and to celebrate our school. To be able to look back on photos of the past, from the many years at Hawthorn, the move to Ringwood East, through all the different years of growth which began in 1877, with Mrs Emma B Cook and her vision for education.

It was an honour to have in attendance Alumni, Life Governors and members of the Board, as well as parents, staff and most importantly students. Life Governor, Deirdre Johnston (YG 1955) was able to tell the school about the Hawthorn years and Southwood old boy Dean Vescio (YG 2012) led us through a prayer of thanksgiving for the past.

Our principal, Mr Bradley Fry then reminded each of us the importance of this day and that it is the journey we travel which is important.

It truly was a service of celebration, with beautiful music from the Concert choir, the cutting of a 140th birthday cake and then chocolate cake for all students throughout the school at recess.

A wonderful way to begin our 140th year together!
