On Wednesday afternoon the Tintern Brass Ensemble and a small group of Chamber Choir girls attended the Maroondah Schools ANZAC Service at Ringwood Lake.

Guests at the event included representatives of The Honorable French Consul General and The Honorable Turkish Vice Consul, as well as the Mayor of Maroondah, Federal and State local politicians, local Council members and other local dignitaries.

The Tintern student group consisted of trumpeters Nicholas Elliott (Year 12), Ella Watt (Year 8), Eddie Wang (Year 11) and Kim Maher (Year 9) and Maya Watt (trombone) along with their tutor Maria Pisani (trombone). The group provided musical accompaniment for the singing of the National Anthem and a hymn. Grace Edwards, Sienna Gerin, Lovelyn Lim, Heidi Ruckert and Lucy Wheeler led the singing. Especially notable was Nick Elliott’s haunting rendition of the Last Post and Reveille on a World War II bugle which was gifted to Nick many years ago by the president of the Ringwood RSL in recognition of Nick’s talent on the trumpet. This event was convened by the Rotary Clubs of Ringwood and Croydon and was blessed with lovely warm weather and a gentle breeze.

The service was poignant and quite moving at times, as the MC explained to over 600 gathered primary and secondary school students that the purpose of the event was not to glorify war, but to remember the lives lost in the pursuit of peace. Junior School Captains, Amber Wild and Max Adam represented the school by reading the Requiem and laying a wreath. Our music students were wonderful ambassadors for our school and we thank them for their contribution to this local community event.
