Tintern’s Inaugural Chamber Music Festival
On Tuesday night, 29 August, four Tintern quartets, a Tintern quintet and two Yarra Valley Grammar quartets performed at the Inaugural Chamber Music Festival at Monsalvat in Eltham. Each group performed their pieces spectacularly with many positive remarks from audience members and teachers alike. There were a number of pieces from composers such as Mozart and Chausson.
We were fortunate to have one of the members of the Flinders Quartet, their cellist Zoe Knighton, attend the performance. She, along with the other members of the Flinders Quartet, came to Tintern to run workshop sessions and tutor the performers the Sunday beforehand, giving tips and helpful feedback. Everyone benefited immensely from their visit and enjoyed the day’s rehearsals.
Overall, the showcase concert was a great success, filled with some superb music from a varied range of talented ensembles. Many thanks to Mr Veldman and Mrs Bezaire for bringing this new musical initiative for Tintern to fruition. It was a wonderful opportunity for enhanced learning for a number of senior musicians, both from Tintern Grammar and Yarra Valley Grammar.
